- 1858: Founded in Baltimore, MD, as the Maryland Mutual Life and Fire Insurance Company.
- 1870: Renamed Monumental Life, inspired by Baltimore’s moniker "The Monumental City."
- 1900s: Became a giant in the "Home Service" (debit) market, where agents collected premiums door-to-door.
- 1986: Acquired by Aegon N.V. (Netherlands).
- 2000s: Merged with other Aegon home-service acquisitions: Peoples Benefit Life and Commonwealth Life.
- 2014: Name Change: Monumental Life was formally renamed Transamerica Premier Life Insurance Company. This marked the end of the 156-year-old "Monumental" brand name.
- 2020: Transamerica merges Transamerica Premier Life into Transamerica Life Insurance Company, consolidating all charters into one issuing entity.
